We have moved the shop from Burnside
to
3403 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Portland, OR
We are loving the new location and
hope to see you up here soon!!
Original location
1994-2017
222 W. Burnside Street Portland, OR 97209
This little store
front was established in 1994
The folks all said that “Punk Is Dead” but they knew better!
The short story….
Two ol’tyme punk
rockers
Connie from Oakland, CA and Frank from Newark, N.J.
met in an infamous little bar called "Aldo’s",
“New Wave Music Hideaway” in Lyndhurst N.J. in 1984
They ran amuck in the N.J. & N.Y.C. scene for 9 years.
Anarchy chaos & destruction at CBGBs, Danceteria,
The Ritz, Cat Club, Pyramid, Downtown Beirut,
Irving Plaza, Rock Hotel, Save the Robots,
Lismar Lounge, Aztec, Pipeline etc…
Connie worked for Roma & Iggy at “ Two Tone”
in Passaic N.J. for a number of years.
Since the true punk scene has its own family structure
it is safe to say that that Roma, Iggy & Two Tone
are the parents of Another State of Mind.

If you can find a copy of the “Beastie Boys” video collection
1987 CBS Inc. you can see a footage of
Connie, Roma & the boys inside Two Tone.
Things were on the wane in the late 80’s and with the
cost of living going up on into the early 90’s
it was time for a change....
They relocated to Portland in 1993.
It only took a year of packing boxes and spraying shoes
at a local bowling alley before they saved up
enough to rent a small shop front down on Burnside,
or as they affectionately call it “Bumside”.
Another State of Mind was born and became
the meeting place for local spikes and studs youth,
a place for those of a like mind.
Connie & Frank have watched the kids grow up,
get drunk, form a band, graduate,
get married, have kids, go to war, go to jail,
and sometimes even pass away.
They have watched the streets change
from a domicile for drug dealers and prostitutes
to a trendy haven for club goers and nightlife.
During 1995 Connie and Frank started their own band called
"Antiworld" and have been quite successful
producing albums and touring throughout the world.
Today Another State of Mind is not only a shop front
but a successful mail order business
providing original 80's style rebellion wear worldwide.
